Measuring and Calculating

How to Measure and Calculate Window Awning Size

Note: In the window awning prices page simply input your homes window size and this calculation will be done for you.

Use this table to determine your projection and length.

Projection

Projection
  • A = Total Height of your window
    (Not window awning)
  • B = Support Arm Length
  • C = Projection (See chart below)

Length

Length
  • #1 = 6"
  • #2 = Window Frame (Trim Not Included)
  • #3 = 6"
  • #1 + #2 + #3 = Length of Window Awning

In general you want your Window Awning to be 12 " wider than the actual window.
This will allow a little width to help block out the light from the side.

The Projection is figured by multiplying the height of your window times .70 (70%). Window Awnings are sold in 3" multiples and priced in 6 " increments. Example: 36" x .70 = 25" (you can purchase a 24" or 27" projection.

Sizes shown are suggested only for example.
The size will be up to you depending on how harsh the sun is on that side of your home.
The Arm Length ("B") can be almost any dimension.
